---------------------------- Yes, the image in that X post (from
@goddek
) is a genuine historical photograph of the bodies of two British Army sergeants — Clifford Martin and Mervyn Paice — who were abducted and hanged by the Irgun (a Jewish Zionist paramilitary group led by Menachem Begin) in Mandatory Palestine.Key facts and corrections:Date: It happened on 29–30 July 1947 (not 1946, as you mentioned — that's a common mix-up with the earlier King David Hotel bombing). The bodies were found hanging from trees in a eucalyptus grove near Netanya, booby-trapped with mines. What happened: Irgun kidnapped the two sergeants (from the Intelligence Corps) as retaliation after the British hanged three Irgun fighters (Avshalom Haviv, Meir Nakar, and Yaakov Weiss). The Irgun then killed the sergeants and strung up their bodies. The photo was widely published at the time, including on the front page of the Daily Express on 1 August 1947, and it caused huge outrage in Britain (leading to anti-Jewish riots). The image: The black-and-white photo you see in the post exactly matches the well-documented historical image — two uniformed men hanging from trees in a wooded area, one with a visible note/sign on his chest. This is the authentic "Sergeants affair" photo, not staged or misattributed.
